Climate Change - How Safe is Your City?

No city is safe, cities around the world face profound climate risks

This analysis by the CDP offers a clear and thorough look at the future cities are facing. The impact of the recent Hurricane Helene is yet another reminder of the challenge.

As the world rapidly urbanizes, with 70 million people moving to cities each year, two-thirds of the global population will live in urban areas by 2050. This shift brings enormous opportunities but also exposes cities to growing risks. Without action, cities will face increased threats to public safety, strained services, and heightened challenges for governments. For the real estate industry, investors, developers, asset managers and advisors the risks are profound and the time to act is now!

Managing these risks starts with measuring them. In 2018, over 620 cities, representing 517 million people, reported their climate and environmental data to CDP. By understanding climate hazards, cities can take proactive steps to mitigate risks and safeguard their communities, ensuring a more resilient urban future.
